SOMA Dream Team Feature: Nubia Wilson
For the July Issue of SOMA Living Magazine, I had the pleasure of photographing Nubia DuVall Wilson, a published author, PR and marketing agency owner, TV/film producer, and mental health advocate. She is the second vice president of the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education. Her diverse professional background and accomplishments made this photo shoot a unique and rewarding experience. Nubia's varied career and vibrant personality inspired a photoshoot to reflect different aspects of her professional life and character.
The Yellow Suit
For the first look, Nubia wore a striking yellow suit. The goal was to capture her authoritative presence as a TV/film producer and agency owner. We had her sit in a director's chair, illuminated with dramatic LED lighting to highlight her commanding presence and professional aura. The lighting was designed to emphasize her strong and confident demeanor, aligning with her role in the entertainment industry.
The Gold Dress
In the second setup, Nubia changed into a gold dress. This look was intended to make her appear as though she was on stage. We used stage-like lighting to create a sense of grandeur and spotlight. The combination of the gold dress and the lighting gave Nubia a regal and prominent appearance, fitting for someone who often takes center stage in her professional endeavors.
The Blue Beach Sundress
The final look featured Nubia in a blue beach sundress. We used a blue backdrop and added some wind to give the dress motion and create a unique visual effect. A crystal was placed before the lens to add an ethereal quality to the photos. This setup aimed to capture Nubia’s vibrant and creative spirit, showing a more relaxed and whimsical side of her personality.
Of course the magic could not happen without the entire SOMA Dream Team:
